Good morning! I am here again after some days traveling around Spain and Portugal. One of the cities I’ve just gone is San Sebastian.  San Sebastian is situated in the The Basque Country, which is an autonomous community of northern Spain.  It’s very well-known city for the «San Sebastian Film festival» and for the excellent gastronomy, the second city with more Micheline stars after Kyoto.

Buen día! Estoy aquí denuevo luego de unos días de viaje por España y Portugal.  Una de las ciudades en las que he estado es San Sebastián. San Sebastián se sitúa en el «País Vasco», una comunidad autónoma del norte de España. Es una ciudad muy conocida por el «Festival de cine de San Sebastián» y por su excelente gastronomía, la segunda ciudad con más estrellas Micheline luego de Kyoto. 

The San Sebastian Film Festival, which is the most famous event in the city, is taking place nowadays, since 22nd to 30th September, in the Congress Palace and Kursaal Auditorium.  Many recognized actors and directors present their movies, while the people go there to take some photos of them and watch their expected films.

El Festival de Cine de San Sebastián, el cual es el evento más famoso en la ciudad, se está celebrando estos días, desde el 22 al 30 de Septiembre, en el Palacio de Congresos y el Auditorio Kursaal.  Muchos actores y directores reconocidos presentan sus películas, mientras que la gente va allí para tomar algunas fotos de ellos y ver sus películas esperadas.

The aristocratic days in Donostia.  Los días aristocráticos en Donostia.

Talking about history, for many years, the Spanish and French aristocracy chose San Sebastian, or Donostia (in basque),  for having holidays.  The Queen Maria Cristina, Coco Chanel or Leon Trotsky could be seen walking in different places of the city.  During the First World War, European rich people took refuge in the city, being one of the reasons of the French influence , principally in architecture.  Hotels, the Casino, cafes and all around the beach make you feel living in the end of XIX century or the first years of XX century: the «Belle Epoque donostiarra».

Hablando sobre historia, durante muchos años, la aristocracia española y francesa eligió San Sebastián, o Donostia (en vasco), para pasar vacaciones. La Reina María Cristina, Coco Chanel o León Trotsky podrían ser vistos caminando en diferentes lugares de la ciudad. Durante la Primera Guerra Mundial, los ricos europeos se refugiaron en la ciudad, siendo una de las razones de la influencia francesa, principalmente en la arquitectura. Hoteles, el Casino, cafés y toda la playa te hacen sentir vivir a finales del siglo XIX o los primeros años del siglo XX: la «Belle Epoque donostiarra».

 

A chic air is everywhere. When you walk around the pleasant streets, contemplate the sea from Urgull mountain or have a coffee in any antique cafe, you’ll realize that the elegance and refinement of those years are still present.  And if you want to fly to the splendor and style of the middle XX century fashion, you have to go to Getaria, the city where Cristobal Balenciaga born and where you can explore his museum and learn more about his creation.

Un aire elegante se percibe en todas partes.  Al caminar por las agradables calles, al contemplar el mar desde la monte Urgull o al tomar un café en cualquier café antiguo, te darás cuenta de que la elegancia y el refinamiento de esos años todavía están presentes.
